Responsibilities of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement

West Bengal Rajya Sainik Board

The Directorate of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement, under the West Bengal Rajya Sainik Board, is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing welfare, rehabilitation, and resettlement measures for Ex-Servicemen and their dependents in the State of West Bengal. The major responsibilities of the Directorate are as follows:

1. Welfare of Ex-Servicemen and Dependents

  • Implementation of welfare schemes for Ex-Servicemen (ESM), war widows, disabled soldiers, and dependents of deceased service personnel

  • Providing financial assistance, relief, and grants as per State and Central Government schemes

  • Ensuring social security and dignity of Ex-Servicemen and their families

2. Resettlement and Re-Employment

  • Assistance in re-employment of Ex-Servicemen in government, public sector undertakings, and private organizations

  • Promotion of self-employment opportunities through skill development, entrepreneurship, and training programs

  • Liaison with employment exchanges, government departments, and private employers

3. Educational Assistance

  • Implementation of scholarship and educational assistance schemes for children of Ex-Servicemen, war widows, and disabled soldiers

  • Guidance and support for vocational and technical education

  • Coordination with educational institutions and authorities

4. Pension and Grievance Redressal

  • Assistance to Ex-Servicemen and families in matters related to pensions, family pensions, and disability pensions

  • Redressal of grievances related to welfare benefits, documentation, and entitlements

  • Liaison with military, civil, and pension authorities

5. Medical and Disability Welfare

  • Assistance in obtaining medical benefits and disability-related entitlements

  • Support to physically disabled and medically boarded-out soldiers

  • Facilitation of healthcare-related welfare schemes

6. Maintenance of Records

  • Maintenance and updating of records of Ex-Servicemen, war widows, and dependents at State and District levels

  • Issuance of identity cards and certificates as per prescribed norms

  • Collection and analysis of data for policy planning

7. District Sainik Welfare Offices

  • Supervision, monitoring, and guidance of District Sainik Welfare Offices functioning across West Bengal

  • Ensuring effective implementation of welfare schemes at the district level

  • Capacity building and administrative support to district offices

8. Coordination with Central and State Authorities

  • Coordination with the Kendriya Sainik Board, Government of India

  • Implementation of Central Government schemes at the State level

  • Coordination with State Government departments for policy execution

9. Assistance to War Widows and Families of Martyrs

  • Special welfare and rehabilitation measures for war widows and next of kin of martyrs

  • Financial aid, educational support, and social assistance

  • Facilitation of benefits and entitlements announced by the Government

10. Public Awareness and Outreach

  • Dissemination of information regarding welfare schemes and benefits

  • Organizing welfare camps, seminars, and outreach programs

  • Encouraging registration of Ex-Servicemen with District Sainik Welfare Offices
